Increase Storage By Adding An Island To Your Kitchen

You could also add an additional prep sink.

As you can see, when it comes to increasing your storage space, there’s nothing that your new designer kitchen island can’t do!

If you’re looking to give your kitchen that designer look and feel – not to mention the added bonus of extra storage space – then it’s time to add a gorgeous island to your kitchen.

Consider the kitchen island to be your secret storage weapon. While many homeowners like the added cooking space that an island provides, there’s a hidden bonus to the island that many of you may have overlooked:

You can store virtually anything in these in-demand features. From extra pots and pans to large appliances, a kitchen island just might be what you need to free your kitchen from clutter.

And did we mention that a kitchen island is one of the most desirable features you can add to your kitchen?

Here are a few more tips on how to increase storage by adding an island to your kitchen:

? If you’ll be preparing food on your island, then be sure to install different food prep items to make the task easier. From cutting boards to utensil drawers, a kitchen island will store everything so that it’s on hand for dinnertime.

? Let’s face it – no one likes the look of a freestanding trash barrel. Put your island to good use by installing a pull-out trash drawer. It’s a simple way to increase storage as well as improve the aesthetic quality of your kitchen.

? Your kitchen island can provide a great space for you to install large appliances. You could install a cook top which will enable you to interact with your family and friends while preparing dinner. You could also add an additional prep sink.

As you can see, when it comes to increasing your storage space, there’s nothing that your new designer kitchen island can’t do!

The one area in most homes that sees the greatest amount activity is the kitchen. From preparing meals to entertaining guests, the kitchen is the heart of the home. A home with a spacious, well designed kitchen with plenty of storage and work space not only makes a home a more pleasant place to live but a home that has increased investment value. Any real estate agent will tell you that the design and condition of the kitchen can make or break a sale of a house. Kitchen remodeling or updating can be one of the best investments you will ever make in your home.

Updating a kitchen can give it a contemporary facelift. Today’s look includes durable granite countertops, modern cabinetry, and sleek stainless steel appliances. For kitchens that otherwise work well with convenient design, adequate storage space and counter space, updating can be a simple and cost-effective way to bring an entire home up to date. Updating can also offer additional convenience and organization with roll out shelving, spice racks, and easy, hidden trash access.

Open concept design is the most demanded floor plan among today’s homeowners and buyers. Kitchen remodeling can open up the wall between the kitchen and family living area to create that open space so ideal for family life and entertaining.

Al Sharpton speaks out on race, rights and what bothers him about his critics

Monday, December 3, 2007

At Thanksgiving dinner David Shankbone told his white middle class family that he was to interview Reverend Al Sharpton that Saturday. The announcement caused an impassioned discussion about the civil rights leader’s work, the problems facing the black community and whether Sharpton helps or hurts his cause. Opinion was divided. “He’s an opportunist.” “He only stirs things up.” “Why do I always see his face when there’s a problem?”

Shankbone went to the National Action Network’s headquarters in Harlem with this Thanksgiving discussion to inform the conversation. Below is his interview with Al Sharpton on everything from Tawana Brawley, his purported feud with Barack Obama, criticism by influential African Americans such as Clarence Page, his experience running for President, to how he never expected he would see fifty (he is now 53). “People would say to me, ‘Now that I hear you, even if I disagree with you I don’t think you’re as bad as I thought,'” said Sharpton. “I would say, ‘Let me ask you a question: what was “bad as you thought”?’ And they couldn’t say. They don’t know why they think you’re bad, they just know you’re supposed to be bad because the right wing tells them you’re bad.”

Don Brash, ex-leader of New Zealand National Party, leaves politics

Thursday, November 30, 2006

The ex-leader of New Zealand’s National Party, Dr Don Brash, has announced today that he has left his five year career in politics. Dr Brash had announced last week today that he was stepping down from leader of the National Party.

Dr. Brash was to stay on in politics as long as the new leader, John Key, gave him a senior portfolio and front bench position, where it was thought there would be no room for Dr Brash. However Dr Brash did not comment on whether he had sought that kind of position. The front bench positions and a possible portfolio reorganising will not be announced until tomorrow, Friday.

Over the past few days Dr Brash had been pondering his political career and he said that it is clear that he should leave politics after consulting with friends, colleagues and family including his wife, Je Lan. Dr Brash said: “I’ve come to the conclusion that now is the right time for me to leave Parliament and I informed John Key of that earlier today.”

At the press conference where he announced his intention to leave, few journalists were there compared to his resignation from leader conference.

Dr Brash will stay in Parliament until next year when he will not return. He said that he wanted to tie up loose knots.

Mr Key, last Thursday, said that he had only a few talks with Dr Brash, one on Tuesday and one this morning, but would not comment on Brash’s future. Dr Brash described those meetings as “constructive.”

When Dr Brash first entered politics in 2002 from being head of the Reserve Bank, he had wanted to make a difference and he said that he leaves with the belief that he had accomplished that. He also believes that National could take out the next election to be held in 2008 as it is in great shape. Dr Brash said: “I entered Parliament in 2002 with the intention of making a difference and I leave believing that I’ve done that. The National Party is in great shape to win the next election and I believe that debate about economic policy and about the Treaty is more mature and more realistic than it was five years ago.”

Dr Brash still claims that the book based around his leaked political emails by Nicky Hager, titled The Hollow Men: A Study in the Politics of Deception, played no part in his decision to leave.

Next year Katrina Shanks, accountant, will enter politics again to fill in the empty seat made by Dr Brash, she is currently at number 46 on the list. She had been in politics last year but was forced out after the special votes were counted. Ms Shanks said that she feels positive about changing her career but she said that she would have preferred entering politics on election night and not because Dr Brash had left.

Dr Brash announced that he will look into becoming a director at a company but would not be a director at a state owned enterprise, “not with this Government.” He told TV3’s Campbell Live programme that he will now look after his kiwifruit orchard.

Dr Brash said his colleagues reaction was mixed, Dr Brash said some said: “you’ve done a fantastic job for the National Party. Your work on that has finished.”

Outsourced Accounting Services

Outsourced Accounting Services

by

orionshell

The word ‘outsource’ literally means hiring or engaging others to do your work effectively. If you want to stay tune to the competition, it is necessary to outsource certain things for better management ideas. Many companies have outsourced accounting and auditing to private parties so that they can concentrate on other major tasks of the organization.

There are thousands of such accounting firms which offer professional service for reasonable cost. By hiring one of such companies, you can save considerable time which would otherwise be spent on the hassle of checking the accounts and balancing the sheet. The accounting firms are very dedicated in providing accurate service for their clients. They can stay in the market only if they offer continuous and timely service subject to the satisfaction of the client. The duties of the accounting firm include preparation of accounts annually and settling disputes of auditing, preparation of salary bill for the entire staff of the company and other pay roll service. Further outsourcing the accounts will free you from the hassle of filing returns annually. They would take care of filing income tax and sales tax return and even render help to the clients in the recovery of debts. They would also keep you updated with the future cash requirements in advance so that you are given sufficient time to make arrangement. Now some companies are handling their accounts efficiently with automation facility. But the desired output cannot be reached if there is complete automation. Sometimes these automated systems will not be able to match the needs of the company and again you are forced to do the method of standard accounting process by hand. To avoid this you can directly outsource the work of accounting to reputable companies and accountants who are expert in handling them. Initially the accounting firm would analyze the needs of your company making their service customer centric or highly customized. It is the duty of the accounting firm to provide timely service with well informed decisions about various aspects of accounts and handling cash. You can find out the best firm by doing analysis on the internet or alternatively you can ask opinion from similar companies like yours. Do not go for the company which offers outsourced accounting service for cheap rates since the very purpose of outsourcing will not be met. The firm you hire should be efficient and experience enough to handle the complete accounts of you and your company. The outsourcing has become trend for many organizations not only for accounts purpose but also for various other internal purposes like marketing their product etc. This conent has been taken from http://www.ideamarketers.com/?articleid=3236369&CFID=176195403&CFTOKEN=61267455

Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control

Sunday, August 21, 2005

A robotic system at Stanford Medical Center was used to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery successfully with a theoretically similar rate of complications to that seen in standard operations. However, as there were only 10 people in the experimental group (and another 10 in the control group), this is not a statistically significant sample.

If this surgical procedure is as successful in large-scale studies, it may lead the way for the use of robotic surgery in even more delicate procedures, such as heart surgery. Note that this is not a fully automated system, as a human doctor controls the operation via remote control. Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is a treatment for obesity.

There were concerns that doctors, in the future, might only be trained in the remote control procedure. Ronald G. Latimer, M.D., of Santa Barbara, CA, warned “The fact that surgeons may have to open the patient or might actually need to revert to standard laparoscopic techniques demands that this basic training be a requirement before a robot is purchased. Robots do malfunction, so a backup system is imperative. We should not be seduced to buy this instrument to train surgeons if they are not able to do the primary operations themselves.”

There are precedents for just such a problem occurring. A previous “new technology”, the electrocardiogram (ECG), has lead to a lack of basic education on the older technology, the stethoscope. As a result, many heart conditions now go undiagnosed, especially in children and others who rarely undergo an ECG procedure.

New ‘clean water’ funding for Djibouti’s drought-stricken rural areas

Wednesday, July 4, 2007

With the announcement Monday of 2 million in new funding from the European Union (EU), the Republic of Djibouti’s Ministry of Agriculture hopes to provide some relief to an estimated 25,000 rural inhabitants suffering through severe drought conditions. The money, to be channeled through UNICEF for its water and sanitation program, will be used to develop new wells and improve existing ones.

UNICEF is to contribute a further €60,000, as well as technical expertise to the Ministry of Agriculture, who will carry out the bulk of the work.

“The two-year water supply project targeting rural districts is very significant since people living in 45 villages and their 40,000 heads of cattle will have access to clean drinking water,” said Joaquin Gonzalez, EU Representative in Djibouti.

At the same time, the UN aid agency World Food Program (WFP) indicated that it is working with the Ministry of Agriculture and UNICEF to gradually shift Djibouti’s reliance on emergency aid to a Food for Work program, which it hopes will assist nomadic herders in Djibouti with long-term sustainability. “What we are trying to do together with the Ministry of Agriculture and UNICEF is, for example to dig wells so that despite drought, these herders will be able to irrigate their fields,” said Simon Pluess, WFP spokesman. “And, together with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, we will try and promote vegetable gardens.”

Djibouti has survived harsh drought conditions for the past 5 years. Groundwater is the primary source of water for drinking and irrigation, but has been difficult to exploit and is often contaminated. Almost 50 percent of people in rural Djibouti do not have ready access to properly developed source of drinking water. And, due to the ongoing drought, water availability for livestock is limited. Livestock have shown signs of distress and, subsequently, milk production is down substantially.

Nearly half of all families in Djibouti’s northwest were forced to migrate to find pasture for their livestock. As the droughts continue, the importance of properly maintained wells has become apparent. “Life is harder and harder for us. Years ago there were more rains and also more pastureland for cattle. Now it is good for us to have functioning wells so that we can keep cattle here,” said Anou Amada, farmer in the village of Andoli.

A 2006 survey indicated that only 15 percent of wells in Djibouti were equipped with a protective concrete wall to prevent contamination. Andoli’s well is one of many undergoing repair through WFP’s Food for Work project.

“WFP couldn’t do this alone, so we work with the Ministry of Agriculture and UNICEF to dig wells and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization for vegetable gardens,” said Benoit Thiry, Director, WFP in Djibouti.

When the project is completed in 2008, it will have increased Djibouti’s water pump capacity by adding 25 solar-power pumps, which would compliment the current 61 diesel-powered pumps. “The advantage of solar…is that it is much cheaper and requires less maintenance,” said Omar Habib, UNICEF communication specialist. “We want the people to participate and to appropriate these pumping stations. The government’s role in the long term should be as restricted as possible,” he added.

Investing In Firearms? Talk To The Pros At Your Gun Shop In Bellingham, Wa

byadmin

Start with the fact that the demand for guns and ownership of guns has reached and passed previous records in several countries, including the U.S. Much of this growth can be attributed to the increased interest in self-protection. However, here’s another way to look at firearms, and a few individuals consider this to be the most important viewpoint of all.

A Wise Investment

Many people purchase guns as an investment, a decision that brings numerous benefits. Just ask the specialists at your gun shop in Bellingham, WA. For example, because there is widespread demand for firearms among the general public, gun collectors often find their current collection rising in value. It’s the tried-and-true economic factor: supply and demand. This growing interest has also helped gun manufacturers, making their stock more valuable along the way.

One of the pripercent in a year’s time.

Is There a Downside?

As with every investment, there are no guarantees. You’ll get your best value by talking with the professionals at the gun shop to get a feel for what’s available and what’s in demand. If you’re lucky, you may find a gun that is in the middle or near the top of a spike in price because of rarity or due to simple demand. This can happen with firearms that capture the imagination of the buying public.

No matter how you look at guns, whether as something for sport or as an investment, you can get started today when you click here and browse the website of a trusted provider.

Wikinews holds Reform Party USA presidential candidates forum

Tuesday, January 3, 2012

Three men are currently seeking the presidential nomination of the Reform Party of the United States of America: small business owner Andre Barnett, Earth Intelligence Network CEO Robert Steele, and former college football coach Robby Wells. Wikinews reached out to these candidates and asked each of them five questions about their campaigns. There were no space limits placed on the responses, and no candidate was exposed to another’s responses before making their own. The answers are posted below in unedited form for comparison of the candidates.

The Reform Party is a United States third party that was founded in 1995 by industrialist Ross Perot. Perot ran as the party’s first presidential nominee in 1996, and won over eight percent of the popular vote, the highest percentage for a third party candidate since. In 1998, professional wrestler Jesse Ventura ran on the Reform Party ticket and was elected Governor of Minnesota. The party fell in prominence during the lead-up to the 2000 presidential election when it was plagued by infighting between ideological factions. In 2000, paleoconservative Pat Buchanan won the presidential nomination, and went on to receive only 0.4 percent of the popular vote in the general election. In 2004, the party opted to endorse consumer advocate Ralph Nader, but ended the year nearly bankrupt. In 2008, Ted Weill won the party’s presidential nomination, but appeared on the ballot in only one state and won a total of 481 votes.

The party is currently trying to rebuild and has opened several new state chapters. They will attempt to appear on the ballot in more states for the 2012 presidential election. The party is expected to nominate its presidential ticket during the National Convention this summer.

An account of the Esperanza Fire from an animal rescuer

Saturday, December 2, 2006

As families fled their homes in the early morning hours on Thursday October 26, there was no warning. The Esperanza Fire southeast of Los Angeles and West of Palm Springs, California, had ballooned under the influence of Santa Ana winds to more than 19,000 acres as of the morning of October 27. No time to get the animals, no time for crates or even a leash. Sadly, owners left behind not only their horses, lamas, donkeys, chickens, rabbits, but also their dogs and cats.

Many of the families who did manage to evacuate their pets found themselves in the parking lot at the Fellowship in the Pass Church Red Cross Shelter where a MuttShack Animal Rescue team caught up with them.

Pam Anderson, Director of the emergency Red Cross shelter said that many people with animals had come and left.

The air was thick with smoke, and ash was raining down on the parking lot where dog owners, not able to take their dogs into the shelter were camping out in pup tents andin their cars.

Those who could afford it checked themselves into pet friendly hotels in nearby towns.

Some were prepared. Jane Garner, a small dog breeder was able to get all her animals out, and had set up her puppy runs alongside her RV in the parking lot. Others were not doing too well, having left home without as much as a leash.

The same scenario played out at the Red Cross shelter at Hemet High School. Animals were being boarded in vans, trailers and cars and small travel crates.

When MuttShack Animal Rescue arrived, a small fracas had sent several dogs off in different directions, running out of the school parking lot down busy streets necessitating an instant rescue response.

The Incident Command for the Esperanza Animals, Ramona Humane Society in San Jacinto welcomed MuttShack‘s offer to help at the shelters.

Ramona Humane Society had recently published a notice in their Newsletter about the newly passed “PETS Act”and warned owners not wait until a major disaster such as an earthquake or fireto prepare. “Be proactive to ensure that your pet will be taken care of.”

MuttShack and PetSmart Charities set up ad hoc facilities for the animals at both shelters.

The Red Cross shelter, run by Madison Burtchaell of the Orange County Red Cross was very accommodating about allowing a small emergency pet shelter adjacent to the School.

Barbara A. Fought of PetSmart Charities, an organization that works with animal welfare organizations and provide assistance in disasters, provided crates and emergency supplies.

MuttShack and Red Cross volunteers, Martin St. John, Tom Hamilton, and Steve Meissner helped assemble the crates to secure a safe environment for evacuated pets.

It was a great relief for evacuees who had camped out in the parking lot to finally leave their vehicles and relax at the shelter, setting up their cots to grab some sorely needed rest.

Firefighters and residents reported loss of wildlife and animals. The Esperanza fire burned 34 homes, consumed 40,000 acres and cost five Firefighters their lives before it was contained four days later on October 30. Firefighting operations cost nearly $10 million.

MuttShack Animal Rescue is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization active in disasters and dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and care of lost or discarded dogs, cats and other animals.
