Chelsea’s Robben sent off after “over celebrating”

Tuesday, January 17, 2006

Today, a controversial decision was taken by referee Chris Foy in a recent match between Sunderland Association Football Club and Chelsea Football Club in the U.K. to send off Chelsea’s Robben after “excessive celebrations”. The decision was taken after Robben proceeded to embrace fans beyond the barriers of the club, which was seen by the referee to be a breach of safety regulations, as well as FIFA policy.

As consensus, ex-match officials watching the game agreed the decision was thought to lack common sense. However, the policy of restricting player celebrations was introduced into FIFA policy last year after safety concerns from various match officials. FIFA rules state several situations in which celebrations may lead to booking;

 • If, In the opinion of the referee, a player makes gestures which are provocative, derisory or inflammatory.
 • If the player climbs on to a perimeter fence to celebrate a goal being scored.
 • If the player removes his shirt over his head or covers his head with his shirt.

However, the rule which BSkyB stated in the pre match commentary was more relevant, because the aforementioned rules were not in any way broken; referring to the fact that perimeter fences were only common in Spanish football. The guideline stated that “leaving the field to celebrate a goal is not a cautionable offense in itself but it is essential that players return to the field as soon as possible“.

Despite the justification of the referee’s call, both Robben himself, and commentator Andy Gray questioned the common sense nature of the decision, noting that quick thinking and spontaneous decision should be something a referee focuses on, rather than the implicit enforcement of minor rules.

In response to the decision, Andy Gray noted;

I can’t believe it, celebration is a natural thing to do.. all he was doing was simply celebrating after a job well done with his fans. It wasn’t like he was actually inciting fans because it was his own side. This really is the most silly call I have ever seen a referee make in my history of commentating.

Asp Dot Net Development Company India Nex G Skill

Submitted by: Deepak Tiwari

It provides a large number of data types, interfaces and classes for development of Windows applications and services.

These libraries have been designed to replace older technologies, including the Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC) and Active Template Library (ALT) for Visual C++, the Component Object Model (COM) and the ActiveX model used by all languages, and also the Win32 API which is the core of Windows programming concepts.

While the ASP.NET Development Company India must obviously still use various technologies like the Win32 API and COM, it hides the complex details away from the programmer and can make developing applications for Windows a much easier task. In addition, since all ASP.NET Development Company India use the exact same set of classes, interfaces and data types, moving from one .NET language to another is much simpler.

Here is a brief explanation of the terms.

Classes

Classes are code that implements a set of features and can be used directly by the developer. In many cases a class is an implementation of one or more interfaces. Classes in the .NET Framework also support the use of inheritance, so one class can derive from another and add (or override) features from the base class.

Namespace

A namespace is a collection of classes, enumerations and delegates under a single name. This provides organization to the entire framework and also allows the name name to be used again in different namespaces, without conflicts. The same concept is used in C++ namespaces, Java packages and XML namespaces. Generally, a ASP.NET Development Company India namespace is contained within a single Assembly (.DLL or .EXE).

Enumerations

An enumeration is a simple list of constant values with names assigned.

Generally it is easier for programmers to remember symbolic names than to remember a long list of number values.

Delegates

A delegate is a special class used to implement callbacks into your source code. Basically, you are declaring that when some event occurs, you would like the .NET Framework to call a method in your application. The handle to the method will be stored in a delegate class, which can possible have several methods listed which can be called in sequence. Delegate classes can be used for traditional event notifications as well as callbacks.

Events

An event is triggered whenever the .NET Framework has detected a change in status that you may be interested in. Events are similar to standard Windows messages

Assembly

An assembly is made up of one or more compiled source code units that are grouped together into a single unit. Each assembly file also includes an assembly manifest, which is meta information that describes the assembly’s name, version and dependencies to other assemblies. Assemblies can have either a .DLL or .EXE extension. In general, a .DLL assembly provides classes and services that can be used by other assemblies, while .EXE assemblies are equivalent to an application and will make use of other assemblies.

The meta information is a large part of ability of the .NET Framework to avoid the symptom sometimes called DLL hell. The .NET Framework installs its assemblies under the Windows system folder. Applications are free to use assemblies from this global catalog, or to install assemblies in their own application folder. In that case, .NET will use the application provided assemblies instead of the system assemblies. This allows you to ship versions of assemblies that you know work with your application and avoid problems when users upgrade the system assemblies.

Major Namespaces in the .NET Framework

Microsoft.CSharp

Contains classes that support compilation and code generation using the C# language.

Microsoft.VisualBasic

Contains the Visual Basic .NET runtime. This runtime is used with the Visual Basic .NET language. This namespace also contains classes that support compilation and code generation using the Visual Basic .NET language.

Microsoft.JScript

Contains the JScript runtime and classes that support compilation and code generation using the JScript language.

Microsoft.Vsa

Contains interfaces that allow you to integrate script for the ASP.NET Development Company India engines into applications, and to compile and execute code at run time.

Colleges offering admission to displaced New Orleans students/OH-WY

See the discussion page for instructions on adding schools to this list and for an alphabetically arranged listing of schools.

Due to the damage by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding, a number of colleges and universities in the New Orleans metropolitan area will not be able to hold classes for the fall 2005 semester. It is estimated that 75,000 to 100,000 students have been displaced. [1]. In response, institutions across the United States and Canada are offering late registration for displaced students so that their academic progress is not unduly delayed. Some are offering free or reduced admission to displaced students. At some universities, especially state universities, this offer is limited to residents of the area.

Fighting And Play}

Fighting and Play

by

Soli Katir

When engaged in feline-to-feline combat for self-defense, territory, reproduction, or dominance, fighting cats make themselves appear more impressive and threatening by raising their fur and arching their backs, thus increasing their visual size. Cats also behave this way while playing. Attacks usually comprise powerful slaps to the face and body with the forepaws as well as bites, but serious damage is rare; usually the loser runs away with little more than a few scratches to the face, and perhaps the ears. Cats will also throw themselves to the ground in a defensive posture to rake with their powerful hind legs. Normally, serious negative effects will be limited to possible infections of the scratches and bites; though these have been known to sometimes kill cats if untreated. In addition, such fighting is believed to be the primary route of transmission of feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). Sexually active males will usually be in many fights during their lives, and often have decidedly battered faces with obvious scars and cuts to the ears and nose. Not only males will fight; females will also fight over territory or to defend their kittens, and even neutered cats will defend their (smaller) territories aggressively.

Domestic cats, especially young kittens, are known for their love of play. This behaviour mimics hunting and is important in helping kittens learn to stalk, capture and kill prey. Many cats cannot resist a dangling piece of string, or a piece of rope drawn randomly and enticingly across the floor. This well known love of string is often depicted in cartoons and photographs, which show kittens or cats playing with balls of yarn. It is probably related to hunting instincts, including the common practice of kittens hunting their mother’s and each other’s tails. If string is ingested, however, it can become caught in the cats stomach or intestines, causing illness, or in extreme cases, death. Due to possible complications caused by ingesting a string, string play is sometimes replaced with a laser pointer’s dot, which some cats will chase. While caution is called for, there are no documented cases of feline eye damage from a laser pointer, and the combination of precision needed and low energy involved make it a remote risk. A common compromise is to use the laser pointer to draw the cat to a prepositioned toy so the cat gets a reward at the end of the chase.

Nokia appoints Microsoft Business Division Head as chief executive

Sunday, September 12, 2010

The Finnish communications corporation Nokia announced that its Head will change on September 21. The previous chief executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo will continue to chair in non-executive capacity. The head of Microsoft Business division Stephen Elop will take the position. It is the first time a non-Finn becomes Nokia president and chief executive.

The change follows Nokia’s fall in world markets. It includes a decrease in Nokia’s American market share to less than ten percent after failed negotiations with a number of leading American phone providers. An analyst at a market analyst company Canalys, Pete Cunningham, said, “Despite holding 38 percent market share of the smartphone market, Nokia’s failure to compete with the iPhone and high-tier Android devices, combined with its lack of progress in gaining significant traction in the United States, has led to press and investor dissatisfaction.”

Some commenters suggested that Nokia chose Mr. Elop partly because he is a Canadian, following criticism of American candidates by the Finnish press. However a Nokia spokesman rejected this, saying, “Nationality was not a selection criteria.”

Stephen Elop was president and CEO of the graphics and web-development software house Macromedia prior to its acquisition by Adobe in 2005. He then joined Microsoft as President of Microsoft’s Business Division in January, 2008. Commenting on his new role he said, “Nokia has a unique global position as well as a great brand upon which we can build. The Nokia slogan clearly states our key mission: Connecting People, which will acquire new dimensions as we build our portfolio of products, solutions and services.”

In the announcement the Chairman of the Nokia Board of Directors Jorma Ollila stressed an expected shift of focus from hardware to software. “His [Stephen Elop’s] strong software background and proven record in change management will be valuable assets as we press harder to complete the transformation of the company. We believe that Stephen will be able to drive both innovation and efficient execution of the company strategy in order to deliver increased value to our shareholders”.

Nokia stated in an official blog post, “Nokia is transitioning from a hardware manufacturer of mobile devices to a software and solutions business. …Stephen’s background in the software industry is one of his key strengths.”

Canadian gold-medalist arrested, charged with kidnapping

Wednesday, December 27, 2006

Canadian gold-medalist Myriam Bédard is facing a January 5 extradition hearing from the United States, after she was arrested and charged with abducting her 12-year old daughter Maude. The Biathalon athlete is arguing she should be allowed to return to Canada on her own.

Bédard had taken her daughter to Washington D.C. with her new husband, Nima Mazhari, on October 2, violating the terms of her divorce settlement from Biathalon coach Jean Paquet. Mazhari, who is a sculptor, was charged with the unrelated theft of $100,000 worth of paintings last year.

Paquet filed a report with the Sûreté du Québec on December 8, stating that Bédard had violated the divorce terms, and an international arrest warrant was issued.

On December 20, the case was brought to the attention of Interpol, and two days later the United States Marshals Service announced her arrest in Columbia, Maryland, at a hotel celebrating Maude’s 12th birthday. Maude was taken into the custody of the Marshals Service for three days, before being returned to her natural father.

Defence attorney John Pepper is arguing that the United States should be obligated to release Bédard on bail as she hasn’t been formally charged with any crime, pending her extradition to Canada, where she faces two charges, child abduction and violating a custody order.

Pepper is also arguing that the three-time Olympic medalist was seeking refuge from “bureaucratic terrorism” in Canada, a claim that Bédard made in a letter she sent to the International Olympic Committee, Kofi Annan and US ambassador David Wilkins explaining why she was leaving Canada.

Bédard gave testimony during the Sponsorship scandal, where she stunned the courts by alleging that advertising firms had been engaged in narcotics trafficking, that her current husband was responsible for the decision not to send the Canadian Forces to Iraq, and that Formula One driver Jacques Villeneuve had been paid $12 million to wear a Canadian flag, claims that were not verified by other sources.

Bédard is facing growing doubts about her mental state, which her attorney says are attempts to “belittle” her, due to personal grudges and her role in the scandal.

Bicycle Light: Making Your Child Safe And Sound

Bicycle Light: Making Your Child Safe And Sound

by

XTREME BRIGHT

Pedestrians rush back to their homes and pay much less attention to their safety than needed while crossing the roads. As a result, the chances of road accidents rise dramatically. The risk is even higher for those who ride bicycles, as they occupy the middle position between car drivers and pedestrians: they move quite quickly, though have to put some efforts to making themselves visible on the road. (e.g., to install bike lights, reflectors, wear reflective bands etc.)

If your child is used to ride a bicycle in the evening time you should seriously think about his or her safety. Perhaps your childs evening rides cause constant disturbance of yours. However, you can easily stop worrying after you install a quality bike light on your childs vehicle. The headlight performs three main functions: it guarantees your childs safety on the road, therefore eliminates your worries and anxiety, and provides a better and more comfort riding experience for your child.

When you buy a quality bike light for your childs vehicle, be sure that in this way you will make the bicycle noticeable for car drivers. Of course, reflectors are good, but if you are really concerned about your childs safety, you should better use bicycle light. The matter is, reflectors are hardly seen from afar, while bike lights are visible from quite large distances. What is more, reflectors need the direct light to perform their functions. With bike light, your child will be seen by car drivers at any angle and from large distances.

With a bike light installed on the vehicle, your child will feel comfortable on the road. It gives an opportunity to observe what lies ahead and react correspondingly. By the way, bumping into people while driving in the dark or even at dusk is a huge risk, especially when pedestrians do not wear light (or reflective) clothes and do not carry any sources of light (like flashlights, torches etc). In this case bike light is of primary importance for your child.

Actually, bicycle light also helps to see whether there are any animals on the road ahead. It doesnt depend whether your child is going to ride within or outside the city, stray or wild animals can get on the road in search of food. Unless your child has a headlight on the bike, chances are that he or she will bump into the animal. That can cause not only stress for your child, but also a serious accident if the animal is large enough.

Obviously, with a bike light you can be sure that your child will never miss the right turn, cross the traffic markings or fail to see the traffic sign. What is more, bicycle light ensures you that your child will ride comfortly, without getting into a puddle or a bump, especially when moving in the country.

To sum up, bike lights are necessary if your child has a bike and rides it during the evening time (even if it happens quite seldom). This small accessory makes your child safe on the road and prevents various road accidents which can happen due to the limited visibility in the evening hours. Moreover, bicycle light saves your own health as you will no more have to worry about your childs safety on the road.

Smart-1 probe ends mission with planned crash into the Moon

Tuesday, September 5, 2006

Observatories around the world watched the skies early on Sunday morning as a European space probe, the SMART-1 crash landed on the Moon; the first time a European made object has landed there and, as the first, it made quite a bang. For the culmination of its three-year mission the probe left its orbit around our nearest neighbor and smashed into the Lake of Excellence at around 4,500 mph. The impact created a brand new crater and scattered debris up to 30 miles, in contrast to the gentle touchdown of the Eagle lander (when Neil Armstrong became the first man on the moon) 37 years ago.

Many infertile American women want sex selection

Friday, March 11, 2005Many infertile American women would choose the sex of their next child if given the option.

A survey of 561 women being treated for infertility has found that 41% would use sex selection if it were offered at no cost.

Contradicting fears that such sex selection would cause gender imbalance, the survey found that women with no children would choose baby girls and boys in approximately equal numbers.

Furthermore, women with only daughters wanted to select a male child while women with only sons wanted to select a female child.

“Sex selection is a topic that’s almost taboo for physicians to talk about,” says study lead author Tarun Jain of the University of Illinois at Chicago. “Prior to this study, there has been no data to indicate what the demand might be.”

Of 561 survey respondents, 229 would want to select the sex of their future child.

Among these, 45% had no children and 48% had children of all the same sex.

Half would choose to select the sex of their next child even if they had to bear the cost.

About 55% would choose sperm separation, 41% would choose preimplantation genetic diagnosis and 4% would choose neither.

Sex selection is controversial. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists opposes it for nonmedical reasons and so does the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics.

The American Society of Reproductive Medicine supports it for nonmedical reasons for family gender balancing provided methods used are safe and effective.

“As the techniques gain more popularity, physicians will have to decide if they will offer the procedure to patients with and without children,” says Jain.

The research is reported in the journal Fertility and Sterility.
